Today has been an interesting day. My poor son is getting super sick. He does this a lot but he has been pretty good about maintaining a clean bill of health for the last few months. However, this week he has been slowly slipping into his old ways.

It’s a scary thing. Every time my son gets sick, he falls quickly into the same down spiral of breathing difficulties. If you breathe you probably know that breathing difficulties can be scary (if you are reading this I assume you breathe). For parents, this is a nightmare.

When Avery shows even a hint of a cold or cough, we here a sniffle, or even sense the slightest change in the pattern of his breathing, we instantly wip out the breathing medication that his dr. prescribed. The trouble is that the breathing treatment is hated by 2 year olds categorically—my son is no exeption. And yet since we want him to live, we have to give it to him.

The breathing treatment is only a simple little oxygen mask with a canister that holds medicine. It slips over his face and the medicine turns to mist that makes his lungs happy. To the 2 year old, however, it has no benefit. It is an aggravation that keeps an unwanted object in view, hindering wonderful cartoon enjoyment. And thus the 2 year old screems—the whole time. This is no fun.

But, alas… The medicine works. Avery’s lungs are starting to be happy again. Starting! We usually have a few days of this before we are all in the clear. God is good to us, and my son. Health is always remembered as a blessing every time we go through this and we thank the Lord for it. Have you thanked the Lord for anything common lately?
